On the 7th of September 2009, my brother Brendan lost his battle with depression. It was at times I’m sure a lonely battle with no finish line in sight. His wife Linda and his two boys Daniel and Jaxon lost a great part of their life when Brendan past. Likewise his mum and dad, and my other brothers and sisters, brother-in-laws, sisters-in-laws, nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends have been left with a void in their life words cannot fill.
I was looking for a new challenge and decided to finish a marathon in each state and territory of Australia and one on each of North and South Islands of New Zealand. Hence making it 10 cities for 10 marathons. I figure the pain of the marathon is nothing to the pain of this dreadful disease so why not try and help people understand this disease further.
I have included an interactive map of the marathons I am doing on this page.
This year I have already completed three marathons being the Gold Coast and Brisbane Marathon this year (the Brisbane and Gold Coast marathons only count for one in QLD) and the final one for the year was the Melbourne marathon. So two down and eight to go. My next marathon is the Australian Outback Marathon on the 31st of July at Uluru.
I am also fundraising during this challenge as well and all donations go directly to the charity Black Dog Institute and you receive an electronic receipt via email as soon as you donate. I am hoping that my effort of running these marathons and fundraising helps one person or family not go though what our family is currently experiencing. Simply click the DONATE NOW logo at the top of the page and go directly to the fundraising page.
For this challenge as I stated I have decided to support the BlackDog Institute in there pursuit of providing educational, research, clinical and community-oriented facility offering specialist expertise in depression and bipolar disorder. Please see the Charity page of this website and also view their website for a full understanding of what they do and offer.
If you are doing a run, swim, bike race or have set yourself another challenge feel free to join my team and raise money along the way for this worthy cause. It is really simple to add a fundraising page and every little bit helps. Just ask me and I am happy to help setup your fundraising page.
